Community Outreach

Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge
  • Assisted on the fundraising board for the Active for Autism walk. Served in the silent auction, and set up for the event. Attended regular meetings for budget planning and donations.
Sensory Integration Internship
  • Interned at Integrative Touch Pediatric Occupational Therapy Clinic in Mandeville, LA to gain an understanding what it is like to work with children who have disabilities or Sensory Processing Disorders. Implemented strategies and plans for helping children build sensory processing and better social interaction in their schools and homes. Developed plans that involved listening to classical music, strategic thinking, play, and autonomy. Depending on the child's disability or inadequacy, each plan was tailored for the individual's specific needs. Handwriting and homework practice were also given to the children.
New Mexico/Mexico Mission Trip
  • Went on a mission trip to Santa Teresa, NM/Juarez, Mexico. The group was assigned duties to cook, clean, build a kitchen, paint, and host vacation bible study. I was in charge of co-teaching the 8-13 year-old class along with two others. We had an already developed lesson plan, but were to use our time effectively to teach all the necessary points from the book. Teamwork was needed as each of us had to share time spent teaching the students. We were to sing, build crafts, monitor, and play games with the children. If a child was not picked up in time, we were to stay with them and entertain them until an authority figure signed them out. The mission trip showed me a valuable experience on different culture and language and how to teach the gospel to children.
All Saints Dental Clinic
  • Volunteered at a free Dental clinic to gain a better understanding of service offered in the United States. I served with the knowledge of certain assistant duties that I acquired from interning with Dr. Melinda Hickey dds. Activities focused primarily on maintaining OSHA standards for all tools and equipment used. I got the experience of working with different dentists who volunteered to support the All Saints Dental Clinic in Covington, LA.
Melinda Hickey Dental
  • Maintained a scheduled dental internship for Dr. Melinda Hickey dds. Brought patients from the waiting room to the dental chair and built rapport with the patients. Set up the procedure and cleaned the tools and chairs up to protocol for OSHA standards. Served as the dental assistant for two weeks while the dental assistant was on leave. Additional dental assistant activities were to hold dental mirrors and other tools in place while the dentist is performing the procedure. Also, anything that the dentist requests is up to the dental assistant to perform.
Bible Study Fellowship
  • The entire duration of the bible study is seven years, and I am entering into my second year with the group. This weekly women's intensive bible study is held to develop biblical knowledge. Each week, members are to individually complete bible questions based on their designated reading, given from the previous week. A small group meets to discuss each question, then after that a larger group lecture is presented from a well-trained mentor. When the meeting is over, the questions are handed out along with a scholarly written interpretation for that reviewed lesson to be completed for the next week.

Attended a mandatory training seminar prior to becoming a mentor.
